Good morning lovely Reader.
This is a celebratory letter and i hope it finds you well.
A few days ago i reached 100 subsribers here on Meadow Journal and while for some that might not seem like a very big number, the mere thought of reading my words out loud to 100 people in real life sends shivers down my spine.
Inspired by a number of different people (
, and of course the queen to name a few) i thought this milestone would be the perfect opportunity to write and share my first 100 word story. If you haven’t heard of this concept yet, it is a piece of writing, fictional or not, that is exactly 100 words long. Erica Drayton started this, i will link her post below where she explains everything in more detail. So without beating about the bush any longer here is my first 100 words story:
She awoke to the crackling noises of a fire ablaze. Today was the day, she could feel it. The smell of burning wood weaved its way through the bars across the window filling her nose as she took a deep breath. Her thoughts circled around her mother, sister and aunt and all the other women who had gone before her. Now her time had come. Footsteps approached. Keys jingled, the lock in the door turned. A dark silhouette stood in the light flooded opening. Adrenaline rushed through her veins there was fear mixed with hopeful surrender. Today she would burn.
I have been listening to a podcast Witch by BBC 4 all about witches, modern ones, old ones, the witch trials, magic and science. It is very interesting and i have been inspired by it. This idea for a story came to me after listening to the episode about the witch trials. This podcast and especially the cover have also inspired my art lately, more of that possibly at another point in time:)
I hope you have a peaceful day,
Pippa xxx
Ooh Pippa... I love the fabulous twist at the end too... and especially poignant to me as my mothers family were all renowned for their witchy ways..!!
