Meadow Journal and my deep connection to meadows
How the name came to be and what it means to me
Hello Lovely, i hope this letter finds you well.
I have been thinking about the name of my newsletter Meadow Journal.
Meadow Journal.
It all staretd out as two pretty sounding words combined to a pretty sounding name. But the more i thought about it and the more this newsletter has evolved the more meaning the name has gotten.
I began with searching for a different word for newsletter, i searched for synonyms of diary or bulletin, newspaper. Journal was the one i liked best and also hadn’t seen around much on here.
The first half of my new name was found.
The word meadow evokes such beautiful, peaceful images in my mind, it is probably one of my favourite words. And i liked the sound of Meadow Journal. So a newsletter was born.
I have come to realise that “meadow” doesn’t only evoke images and feelings but also memories.
Behind the house i grew up in and garden there is a meadow. We never call it Meadow, in our family it has always been the Grashopper Field. Every summer there are hundreds of grasshoppers in every shade and size. How many times have i wandered through the tall grasses, the grasshoppers jumping away. how many times have walked being nearly scared to death by a pheasant or a hare that i in turn, had scared. Always listening to the insects, the birds and the wind sweeping through the gras.
Countless times i have gone out to breathe the fresh are, needing to reconnect with nature and the soil underneath me. This meadow is the place i go to. A place where i feel safe, a place where i feel connected. A place to learn and grown. A place to rest and reset.
The grashopper field goes through seasons each year, just like i have gone through different seasons of life, coming away from each season with new wisdom, hope and learnings.
A place to ponder on big questions, thoughts, feel big feelings, discover new wonders, a place to just be.
This is a little bit what Meadow Journal feels like to me. A safe place for me to express myself, to write, to share my writing, like in a diary, a journal.
I feel like the name doesn’t neccesarily reflec the topic of my writing (not much nature writing to be found, yet…..) but it reflects me. And i wouldn’t have it any other way.
If you have a newsletter, or blog, or Instagram or anything, what is the meaning behind the name of it? I would love to hear your stories!

Ps. all images in this letter are of the grashopper field. It features a lot in my photography…
Pps. if you enjoyed his letter i would love if you shared it with someone who might also enjoy it.
Oh I love that! Thank you as well xxx
I love that you called the meadow a grasshopper field. There was a field across the street from our house growing up, it had a tree - I'm not even sure what kind - that we always referred to as "the big tree."
